Indian Naval Ship INS Teg, currently on operational deployment to the South West Indian Ocean Region, has arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius, for a four-day visit from June 19 to 22, 2025. The visit aims to reinforce India’s commitment to cooperative maritime security and safeguarding the global commons.
During the deployment, INS Teg will undertake joint surveillance of the Mauritian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in collaboration with the Mauritius National Coast Guard (NCG). The coordinated operations will target Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, reaffirming India’s role as a key maritime partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
In a cultural and symbolic gesture, the ship will commemorate the International Day of Yoga on June 21 with a Joint Yoga Session onboard. The session will include participation from the Indian Navy, NCG personnel, and members of the Indian diaspora in Mauritius, promoting unity and wellness.
Commissioned on April 27, 2012, INS Teg is a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet. Her port call involves professional exchanges, harbour training, community service, and friendly sports engagements with local authorities and NCG personnel.
As part of mutual capacity building, NCG personnel will undergo training aboard INS Teg in firefighting, damage control, and seamanship. Meanwhile, the ship’s crew will be acquainted with NCG operational facilities, further enhancing interoperability between the two maritime forces.
The visit highlights India’s enduring maritime partnership with Mauritius and underscores the shared goal of a secure, stable, and inclusive Indian Ocean Region.
