Ahead of the 11th International Yoga Day on 21 June, 2025, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) hosted a distinctive and uplifting yoga session at the 13th Battalion campus in Sui, Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. The session, designed to promote health, fitness, and mindfulness, saw active participation from around 50 to 55 NDRF personnel.
But the real showstopper was an unlikely yet charming participant — a stray dog trained by the NDRF. The dog, who has been under the care and training of the NDRF for the past two years, flawlessly performed yoga asanas alongside the personnel. From stretching routines to complex balancing poses, the canine’s precise mimicry of the exercises stole the spotlight and warmed the hearts of all present.
Carrying an impactful message — “If a dog can do yoga, why can’t we?” — the performance served as both entertainment and inspiration. The NDRF underlined the importance of incorporating yoga into everyday life rather than limiting it to an annual observance.
Inspector Munshi Ram of the 13th Battalion shared, “Today’s special yoga session was organized to mark the upcoming International Yoga Day. Our trained stray dog has been practicing with us for years and continues to amaze everyone. His involvement is proof that yoga is truly for everyone—even animals. We hope this encourages people to make yoga a daily practice for better physical and mental health.”
The event not only highlighted the dedication and discipline of NDRF personnel but also delivered a powerful message on the universal relevance of yoga. As the world gears up to celebrate International Yoga Day, this heartwarming initiative from Udhampur stands as a creative reminder that wellness knows no boundaries.
