The flood situation in Assam has shown further improvement, with all major rivers now flowing below the danger level. According to official reports, the number of flood-affected people has dropped to around 2.5 lakh across 11 districts.
Nine districts remain affected by the deluge, with approximately 389 villages still inundated. A total of 25 revenue circles continue to face flood-related disruptions. The worst-affected districts include Sribhumi, Hailakandi, Nagaon, Kamrup, Cachar, Golaghat, Morigaon, and Lakhimpur.
Sribhumi remains the hardest hit, with over 1.2 lakh residents affected. Hailakandi follows with nearly 33,000 people impacted. The total number of affected people has now reduced to 1.6 lakh, while over 3,500 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged.
Relief operations are ongoing, with 91 camps established in the affected regions. More than 6,300 people are currently sheltered in 43 of these camps. An additional 44,000 individuals have received aid through 48 relief distribution centres.
One new fatality has been reported from Sribhumi, raising the overall flood death toll in the state to 21. Over 1.1 lakh livestock continue to suffer due to submerged grazing areas and lack of fodder.
Rescue and medical efforts are underway. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel have rescued 72 individuals using three boats. Eight medical teams have been deployed to provide assistance in the flood-hit areas.
Meanwhile, several parts of Assam are experiencing high temperatures, prompting schools to issue safety advisories for children. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the Northeast, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated parts of Assam and Meghalaya.
