‘Shaurya Chakra’, the decorated award of valour, courageous action and self sacrifice was given by the President of India Droupadi Murmu in a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 22 May 2025.

For the exceptional bravery and valour, indomitable spirit in saving lives and grievously injuring one terrorist while making the supreme sacrifice in the highest traditions of the Indian Army, Captain Deepak Singh is posthumously
awarded ‘Shaurya Chakra’.

The Story of Bravery

On 13 August 2024, after receiving intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists, two teams under the command of Captain Deepak Singh were immediately deployed.

Demonstrating exceptional tactical acumen, Captain Deepak Singh established surveillance from a vantage position. At 1930 hours, upon detecting terrorist movement, he swiftly maneuvered his column to close in, executing
a well-coordinated engagement that resulted in injuring the terrorists. Despite the challenges posed by nightfall and the terrorists taking cover among boulders, he maintained an unrelenting vigil throughout the night.

At first light, Captain Deepak Singh reorganized his team and initiated a systematic search, successfully recovering an M4 assault rifle, ammunition, and grenades. Meanwhile, an injured terrorist, abandoned by his accomplices and
concealed among the boulders, launched effective fire on his team.

Sensing imminent danger to his buddy under direct enemy fire, Captain Deepak Singh displayed extraordinary selflessness and gallantry. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he pushed his buddy to safety to cover
behind the boulders during which he sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the process. Despite his injuries, he pressed forward and engaged the terrorist with precision fire, inflicting grievous injuries on the terrorist. He succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom.

His supreme sacrifice will be long remembered. NewzVille Network salute the Indian Hero. Long Live Captain Deepak Singh.
