Prime Minister in a lighter moment with S M Krishna

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the passing of  SM Krishna, former Chief Minister of Karnataka. PM Modi hailed him as a remarkable leader known for his focus on infrastructural development in Karnataka.

In a thread post on X, Modi wrote:

“Shri SM Krishna Ji was a remarkable leader, admired by people from all walks of life. He always worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. He is fondly remembered for his tenure as Karnataka’s Chief Minister, particularly for his focus on infrastructural development. Shri SM Krishna Ji was also a prolific reader and thinker.”

“I have had many opportunities to interact with Shri SM Krishna Ji over the years, and I will always cherish those interactions. I am deeply saddened by his passing. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna  had served as Minister of External Affairs during Congress Government from 2009 to October 2012. He was the 10th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 and the 19th Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008. SM Krishna had served as the Speaker of the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha from December 1989 to January 1993. He was also a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at various times from 1971 to 2014. In 2023, Krishna was awarded the second highest civilian award of India, Padma Vibhushan.
