India Wins by 295 runs in the First Test Match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

India won the first test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia by 295 runs at Perth. Chasing a mammoth target of 534 the Kangaroos bowled out for 238 runs. For India Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj got 3 wickets each. Washington Sundar got 2 wickets and Harshit Rana, NK Ready got one wicket each.

Australia started the 4th day morning with overnight score of 12/3. Steve Smith Caught by Rishabh Pant of Mohammed Siraj in the 2nd over of the morning. For Australia Travis Head remained top scorer with 89 runs with a strike rate of 88. He attacked the India bowlers to get going, till J Bumrah got his priced wicket. Mitchell Marsh supported him with 47 runs. The 6th  wicket partnership of 82 runs between T Head and M Marsh gave some trouble for the Indian bowlers. M Marsh was bowled by debutant N K Reddy with a fine delivery.

India saw a magnificent century from Yashasvi Jaiswal and meaningful and important century from Virat Kohli on the 3rd day. Yesterday India declared their innings at 487/6 when Virat Kohli completed his century. Then the men in blue devastated the Aussies top order at the end of the 3rd day’s play.

For his outstanding bowling figure 8/72 in the match Jasprit Bumrah earned him the Player of the match.

In the WACA Stadium, Perth India had won a test match back in 2008 with an all-round performance by Irfan Pathan of 76 runs and five wickets. But after Renamed as Optus Stadium in 2017 in Perth, which is a bouncy and fast pitch India had lost the test match against Australia with 176 runs in 2018. So over all in Perth India won 2 matches in Perth becoming a favourite venue for them.

Now with this win India has more chances to place themselves in the Final of the ICC Test Championship which will be played in Lords England in June 2025.
