The flood situation in Bihar is worsening due to heavy rains for last few days. The Ganga continues to swell, inundating villages and disrupting normal life across several districts. Over 16 lakh people across 11 districts have been affected.

The Ganga, Punpun and other rivers are flowing above the danger mark following heavy rainfall in the state and neighbouring Nepal. The flooding has disrupted rail and road traffic, while low-lying areas of the city have been submerged.

In view of the possibility of further flooding and to undertake immediate relief and rescue operations, 27 SDRF teams and seven NDRF teams have been deployed in various districts.

Prime Minister is also monitoring the situation at the Centre, particularly in matters concerning disasters.

A severe flood crisis has also gripped Uttar Pradesh, affecting around 3.53 lakh people across 26 districts due to heavy monsoon rains and overflowing rivers.

At least eight major rivers, including the Ganga, Yamuna and Ghaghara (Saryu), are flowing above the danger mark, leaving the flood situation particularly grim in Varanasi and Prayagraj.

Over 17,500 people have been evacuated by rescue teams to safer areas, while close to 5,000 citizens are currently taking refuge in state-run relief shelters.

Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted extremely heavy rainfall and thundershowers at many places for today.
