Train services have been disrupted in the Assam-Mizoram border area of Hailakandi district in Assam. Railway track has been disrupted by erosion of the soil near the railway track due to heavy rainfall on Thursday evening.
A patch of around 50 metres of the railway track between Jamira in Assam and Bairabi in Mizoram on the Katakhal-Bairabi line has been severely affected.
According to railway sources, the erosion occurred on the track around 75 kilometres from Jamira Railway Station. Soil and debris fell into the railway line, disrupting train movement.
Several passenger and express trains operating on the route have been cancelled by the Northeast Frontier Railway.
The Guwahati-Sairang train has been short terminated at Hailakandi. The train, which was scheduled to travel from Guwahati to Sairang in Mizoram, could not proceed due to the erosion.
The disruption has caused inconvenience to a large number of passengers, with many having to make alternative travel arrangements.
The Northeast Frontier Railway has announced refunds for passengers whose trains have been cancelled. Work to clear the railway track and restore services is underway.
