CISF busts upon foreign currency smuggling at Mumbai Airport Terminal 2
CISF FOILS TWO ATTEMPTS OF FOREIGN CURRENCY SMUGGLING AT MUMBAI AIRPORT TERMINAL-2*
Currency worth over ₹72 lakh detected during pre-embarkation security checks; passengers handed over to Customs
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deployed at Terminal-2, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, detected undeclared foreign currency from two international departure passengers during Pre-Embarkation Security Check (PESC)/X-BIS screening on 30 August 2026.
In the first case, at about 1450 hrs, Passenger 1, travelling to Dubai by Air India flight AI-4217, was found carrying USD 45,000/- (approximately ₹42.82 lakh). Of this, USD 30,000/- was concealed around her knees using adhesive tape, while USD 15,000/- was detected in her hand baggage.
In another case, at about 1950 hrs, Passenger 2, travelling to Ras Al-Khaimah by IndiGo flight 6E-1491, was found carrying USD 30,000/- and 3,800/- UAE Dirham in her hand baggage, valued at approximately ₹29.40 lakh.
Together, the two cases account for foreign currency worth approximately ₹72.22 lakh. In both instances, the passengers along with the detected currency were handed over to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU)/Customs authorities for further necessary action.
CISF personnel deployed at airports across the country remain vigilant during security screening to detect and prevent smuggling of currency, gold and other contraband, in coordination with Customs and other law enforcement agencies.
