PM Modi Embarks on a 3-day state visit to Seychelles

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today emarked on a State Visit to Seychelles to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Day of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour. The Indian Armed Forces, along with two Indian Navy ships, will participate in the celebrations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a departure statement ahead of his State Visit to Seychelles from June 27-29, 2026.

In his statement, the Prime Minister wrote he will undertake the visit at the invitation of his friend, Dr. Patrick Herminie, President of the Republic of Seychelles, to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Day of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour.

The Prime Minister described Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and its shared commitment to the Global South. He noted that this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which are rooted in mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity, and deep affinity between their peoples.

Referring to the successful State Visit of President Herminie to India in February 2026, the Prime Minister said he looks forward to discussions aimed at further strengthening the enduring friendship between the two nations. He added that both sides will work together to advance the progress of their peoples and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

The Prime Minister said that during the visit, he will have the honour of becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles. He described it as a historic opportunity reflecting the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions that bind the two nations.

The Prime Minister also said he looks forward to interacting with the vibrant Indian community in Seychelles, which has nurtured the special friendship between India and Seychelles for generations and serves as a living bridge between the two countries.

Expressing confidence in the outcome of the visit, the Prime Minister said it would further deepen the longstanding bonds between India and Seychelles, enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region, and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
