France announced yesterday, the first confirmed case of Ebola identified on its territory, a doctor who had flown back from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The case is the first, outside the African continent during the current outbreak, which has also affected Uganda. In 2014, during an outbreak in West Africa, two patients were transported to France, but they had been diagnosed abroad.
The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has increased to 1,118, including 291 deaths.
According to a report shared by the communications ministry, the number represented the total number of confirmed cases as of June 23.
The White House has sought more than $1.4 billion in new funds from Congress to address the widening Ebola virus outbreak, including $800 million for humanitarian crisis response.
The move is part of a larger supplemental funding request made by the White House on June 24 in a letter to Congress.
