Lightning in Jharkhand claims eight lives; Over a dozen injured

Eight people were killed and more than a dozen others injured in multiple lightning strikes reported from different parts of Jharkhand during the past 24 hours. The incidents were reported from Ramgarh, Giridih, Khunti, Deoghar, Dhanbad and Sahibganj districts. Among those killed were a CPI leader, a ward member, a farmer and several other residents.

In Khunti district, a young man lost his life after being struck by lightning while playing a cricket match. Several others were injured in the incident.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in different districts for treatment. Officials said that some of them are in serious condition.

Meanwhile, authorities have advised people to remain alert during thunderstorms and adverse weather conditions.

They have urged residents to avoid open areas, agricultural fields and taking shelter under trees during lightning activity.

Meteorological authorities have also appealed to people to follow safety advisories and weather warnings to prevent such incidents.
