Wimbledon to start from 29 June; Prize Money Increased by 20%

The oldest Grand Slam Tournament, Wimbledon begins from June 29. The Wimbledon Committe has announced 20% increase in total prize money, with the singles champions set to earn $4.8 million at the grass-court Grand Slam.

The total prize money will be $85.8 million, described as “by far” the biggest annual increase in the tournament’s history.

Tennis players have long sought a larger share of revenue from the four Grand Slam tournaments and have recently begun organizing collective efforts to push for change.

Just over a year ago, 20 leading players signed a letter to the heads of the four Grand Slams, seeking more prize money and a greater voice in decision making.

Wimbledon, the oldest Grand Slam tournament, begins from June 29.
