Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has introduced an advanced road maintenance system by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based road monitoring with a cold emulsion pothole patching machine for scientific and timely repair of damaged roads across Jammu city.
The initiative was showcased during a live demonstration organised for media persons. Commissioner JMC Dr Devansh Yadav said the corporation has adopted a technology-driven approach to identify and repair road defects before the monsoon season.
Under the new system, municipal vehicles equipped with AI-enabled cameras will continuously monitor city roads. The technology automatically detects potholes and other defects, geo-tags their locations and generates digital reports for engineering teams.
The identified road damages will then be repaired through the cold emulsion pothole patching machine, costing around ₹1.3 crore, which enables faster and durable restoration of roads in all weather conditions.
Dr Yadav said the integration of AI detection and mechanised repair will reduce the gap between identification and rectification of road defects, improving road safety and reducing inconvenience for commuters.
The AI platform will also help monitor other civic issues including garbage accumulation, overflowing dustbins, waterlogging, open manholes, damaged pavements, broken road markings, illegal parking, encroachments, stray cattle and construction waste.
