Lakhs of passengers step onto the platforms of Eastern Railway everyday. For many, these trains and stations are more than just a mode of transport; they are second home where journeys become memories and co-passengers become like family.
Eastern Railway doesn’t just see passengers as commuters; they are a family that deserves a home that is spotless and welcoming. Building on the momentum of the month-long Swachhata Awareness Campaign held from April 15 to May 14, 2026, Eastern Railway announced an exclusive and intensified Phase 2 of the program.
Running from May 16 to May 30, 2026, this initiative introduces a rapid-response challenge designed to put the power of cleanliness directly into the passenger’s hands.
Under the leadership of General Manager Milind Deouskar, Eastern Railway is launching the “Spot it, Report it, We are on it” campaign. The pledge of this campaign is to take action within 30 minutes of your report.
To join the #ERChallenge, simply take a clear photo of the unclean spot at the station premises. Next, tag the concern division—Sealdah, Howrah, Malda, or Asansol—and post the photo to our official “X” handles such as @drmhowrah, @drmsdah, @drmmalda, or @DrmAsansol while using the hashtag #ERChallenge. You can also report through official Facebook accounts or Railmadad.
General Manager/Eastern Railway Milind Deouskar stated that the mission is to transform the passenger experience by making cleanliness a real-time reality. He noted that with Phase 2, the Eastern Railway is blending technology with a dedicated workforce to ensure this “second home” stays beautiful for everyone. All four divisions—Sealdah, Howrah, Malda, and Asansol—along with every internal department, are standing ready to take this challenge and committed to turning the “impossible” into “possible” through 24/7 vigilance and rapid response.
Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Shibram Majhi emphasized the emotional core of this initiative, noting that Eastern Railway is striving to provide a healthy, hygienic station environment for every passenger. However, he stressed that this dream can only be fully realized with the help of the public.
He urged passengers to treat the railway premises as their own home by not littering and not allowing others to do so. As a friendly reminder, littering in railway premises is a punishable offence under Section 145 of the Railways Act, 1989. According to the Railways Rules, anyone found littering or spitting can be fined up to ₹500. Together, we can ensure a cleaner tomorrow.
