The Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express services have witnessed an overwhelming response from passengers, with nearly 45 thousand people travelling on the route within just ten days of the train’s regular operations.
The services, which began regular operations on May 2, carried a total of 44 thousand 727 passengers up to May 11 across both directions, highlighting the growing popularity of the high-speed rail link connecting Jammu and Kashmir.
In its very first week, the train services recorded 28 thousand 762 passengers. The upgraded 20-coach Jammu Tawi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express was flagged off by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on April 30.
At present, two pairs of Vande Bharat trains operate on the corridor. Train numbers 26401 and 26402 run six days a week except Tuesdays, while trains 26403 and 26404 operate every day except Wednesdays.
The services ensure smooth connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar for tourists, pilgrims, traders, students and local commuters.
On May 10 alone, the trains recorded an occupancy of over 98 percent, while passenger figures crossed 5 thousand 600 on the same day.
The Vande Bharat service has significantly reduced travel time between Jammu and Srinagar, allowing passengers to reach Srinagar in less than five hours.
The train route also offers scenic views, including the iconic Chenab and Anji bridges, tunnels through the Himalayas and Kashmir’s picturesque valleys.
The train has emerged as a dependable all-weather transport option, especially during winter months when the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway often faces disruption due to snowfall and landslides. The railway service is also proving to be a cost-effective travel option.
