The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) carried out a night rescue operation and evacuated around 20 vehicles after fresh snowfall disrupted traffic movement along the Bandipora–Gurez road.
The snowfall led to slippery conditions at Razdan Top, affecting vehicular movement and leaving several vehicles carrying tourists, passengers and essential supplies stranded at multiple locations.
Following the disruption, BRO deployed its personnel and machinery to the affected stretch and initiated towing operations to clear the road and shift stranded vehicles to safer areas.
Officials said nearly 20 vehicles were successfully rescued during the operation, ensuring the safety of those stranded along the route.
Fresh snowfall was reported in higher reaches of Bandipora, including Gurez, Tulail and Kilshay, resulting in reduced traction and unsafe road conditions, particularly along the Razdan Top axis.
Passengers and tourists stranded during the incident appreciated the timely response and assistance provided by BRO personnel.
Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution and check with district control rooms before undertaking travel on the Bandipora–Gurez road, stating that movement will remain subject to weather conditions and safety assessments.
