According to the state Disaster Management and Rehabilitation department, Aizawl and Lunglei are the worst-hit districts, reporting 39 and 31 damaged homes, respectively. Four houses were completely destroyed, while several public structures including schools, church halls, and health centres sustained damage.
Due to the heavy rain, electric poles have been uprooted and transformers damaged in many areas, leaving several villages across some districts without power.
In addition to this, landslides and rockfalls have also been reported on the roads. To ensure student safety amid lightning and strong winds, educational institutions in Aizawl and several other districts have been closed for two days.
In a statement released on Tuesday, CM Lalduhoma directed all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to swiftly attend to those requiring immediate relief.
He expressed gratitude to the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and local communities for their tireless rescue efforts. Urging vigilance, the Chief Minister requested citizens to immediately report any storm-related damage to designated Zonal Officers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Aizawl received the state’s highest rainfall at 57.8 mm on Tuesday.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms across five districts until Thursday, warning of gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph in Kolasib and Aizawl.
Despite widespread property damage across Aizawl, Lunglei, Siaha, Champhai, and Kolasib, authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.
