Four years down the memory lane…. India had won the Thomas Cup, which is the greatest achievement in a team event. Now, with the core of the team unchanged, and having arrived at the BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2026 in Denmark with a team capable of a podium finish.

Satwikrsairaj Rankireddy was talking of the sentiment going around the team. The gist of which was: do something special here, and the memories will last a lifetime.

Talking to the BWF media, Rankireddy said, “We’re willing to do whatever the team wants” .

“We want to keep the team bond. We came three days earlier, and everyone’s in good spirits. We want to have good memories after 10 days. It’s a team event, so let’s have some good memories,” he added.

“Prannoy always comes up with good ideas, he always wants to keep the team together; Srikanth also. It’s good to have seniors like that. We just want to make memories. These things won’t happen again. Maybe this (experience) won’t happen again.”

The Indians had taken a positive first step, beating Canada 4-1 in their opening tie. Canada were dangerous opponents, but the Indians navigated the challenge of Lakshya Sen losing to Victor Lai, with the others coming through comfortably.

From the Thomas Cup 2022 team there are Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, MRArjun and Dhruv Kapila.

The new entrants are Ayush Shetty and Hariharan Amsakarunan (Kiran George, another member of this team, played the 2024 edition).
