Online Gaming: Govt Notifies New Rules to Start from May 1

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Wednesday notified rules to regulate the digital gaming space under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, with the new norms set to come into effect from May 1.

The newly notified rules enable the formation of a digital gaming authority to oversee the sector.

Speaking to media, N Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, Government of India clarified that there will be no mandatory registration requirement for online games that do not involve real money.
