Supreme sacrifice by Constable Mithun Mandal of 170 Bn BSF in the line of duty

Constable Mithun Mandal of “A” Coy, 170 Bn BSF, made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 10 April 2026 in Ukhrul District, Manipur. Mandal sustained a bullet injury to his left shoulder while performing Road Opening Party (ROP) duty during an exchange of fire between Tangkhul Naga miscreants and Kuki miscreants at Mongkot Chepu Village under PS Litan.

He was immediately evacuated to RIMS Imphal but succumbed to injury and was declared brought dead by the attending doctor. His exemplary courage, dedication, and devotion to duty reflects the highest traditions of the Border Security Force.

A wreath-laying ceremony with full Force honours was conducted on 11 April 2026, from 1300 to 1350 hrs, at Imphal Airport to pay homage to the Martyr.

The ceremony was organised by Sector Headquarters BSF Manipur and was attended by approx 200 Force personnel, senior officers and jawans.

Dignitaries present included Y Khemchand Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur; Kuldiep Singh, Security Advisor; Rajiv Singh, DGP Manipur, among other seniors officials. Floral tributes were paid, and the Force gave its last respects with full military honours.

The mortal remains of the braveheart were subsequently dispatched to his ancestral home.

In a statement of the Border Security Force said that “The BSF stands firmly with the bereaved family in this hour of grief and reaffirms its unwavering commitment in maintaining peace and security in the region. The sacrifice of Late CT/GD Mithun Mandal will always be remembered with honour, pride and deep gratitude.”
