Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) once again created history by producing a record 800 electric locomotives, in FY 2025-26, consisting of 600 locomotives from Chittaranjan Unit of CLW and 200 locomotives from Dankuni Loco Works of CLW.
A set of 5 new electric locomotives namely;
* WAP-5 Push-Pull Aerodynamic Loco for Amrit Bharat trains (one pair);
* WAG-9 TWIN loco (one pair) &
* WAG-9 HC loco
Including the 800th locomotive was ceremonially flagged off by Mohit Chandra, General Manager, in joyous presence of Sr.Officers & staffs on 31st March 2026, from the siding of the country’s premier locomotive manufacturer in Chittaranjan.
This 800 locomotives production figure achieved during this Financial Year 2025-26 is the highest-ever annual locomotive production achieved by CLW in any financial year, setting a new benchmark in the railway locomotive manufacturing sector.
With this remarkable accomplishment, CLW has become the only electric locomotive production unit to achieve this unprecedented milestone. CLW had produced 700 locomotives at the end of last Financial Year 2024-25 consisting 544 electric locomotives from Chittaranjan Unit of CLW and 156 electric locomotives from Dankuni Loco Works / Dankuni of CLW.
Earlier, on the day the 200th locomotive of this financial year was flagged off by the GM from Dankuni Loco Works at Dankuni, which is the historical all time highest locomotive production from Dankuni so far in a single financial year, since its inception.
These achievements have reinforced CLW’s position as the world’s largest locomotive manufacturer under a same establishment.
With the thrust towards electrification over Indian Railways, the production of 800 electric locomotives bears a significant importance, these will not only smoother the rail movement but also will lead to substantial savings in fuel costs & reducing carbon footprints.
Addressing during the flagg off ceremony, Shri Chandra congratulated all the dedicated, workaholic & devoted members of “Team CLW” and appreciated their relentless efforts, who successfully met the challenges & produced 800 locomotives during this Financial Year 2025-26.
Their relentless commitment and perseverance have played a crucial role in reaching this stupendous achievement.
