Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal holds bilateral talks on sidelines of WTO meet

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a series of high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the World Trade Organization Conference to strengthen global trade partnerships.

The Commerce Minister called on Prime Minister of Cameroon Joseph Dion Ngute. The two leaders discussed a range of bilateral and multilateral issues, focusing on opportunities to further deepen India-Cameroon cooperation.

The Union Minister also met Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the WTO. The meeting focused on India’s constructive engagement in ongoing WTO reform discussions. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking multilateral trading system.

In another key engagement, Union Minister Goyal met Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Co-operation of the Netherlands. The discussions covered WTO reform efforts, anticipated benefits of the recently concluded India–EU Free Trade Agreement, and potential sectoral collaborations.

He also held talks with Nicolas Forissier of France. Both sides reviewed ongoing WTO reform initiatives and highlighted the strategic advantages of the India–EU FTA, while exploring ways to enhance bilateral trade and economic ties.

Engaging with African partners, Minister Goyal met Kassahun Balami, Ethiopia’s Minister of Trade and Regional Integration. He reiterated India’s strong support for the African Continental Free Trade Area and discussed expanding cooperation across priority sectors for mutual economic growth.
