Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on West Asia conflict Sashi Tharoor Briefs Media

The meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs was held at Parliament House Annexe yesterday. The Committee was briefed by the representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs on the safety, security and repatriation of the Indian Diaspora during the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor who is the Chairman of the Committee, chaired the meeting. The Ministry of External Affairs team was led by Secretary (West) Sibi George.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Tharoor said the first discussion was on West Asia and was the most comprehensive, in which 17 members participated, and everyone expressed concern about the overall situation, the impact, the safety and security of Indian nationals.

He said another meeting was held about the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi last month. The discussion took place on the outcomes of the summit, its impact, and its implications for tech diplomacy as well as for the relations with countries in the global south.
