A timely and fast rescue operation was launched after 235 civilians and 38 vehicles were stranded at Sinthan Top in Kishtwar district due to heavy snowfall and severe weather conditions on Sunday.

Troops of the Indian Army were immediately mobilised and undertook the operation despite treacherous terrain and relentless snowfall. Rescue teams braved snow-blocked roads and extreme weather to reach the stranded passengers.

Upon arrival, the teams provided hot meals, drinking water and temporary shelter to the affected civilians. Repair and recovery teams worked to restore mobility of stranded vehicles, while passengers from irrecoverable vehicles were safely evacuated.

Medical teams also extended assistance and distributed essential medicines to those in need.

The operation concluded successfully with all civilians and vehicles escorted to safety. Officials said the mission witnessed seamless coordination between the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

Authorities said the successful rescue reaffirmed the commitment of security forces and civil agencies to safeguard lives in harsh weather conditions in the region.
