In Sri Lanka, the High Commission of India held a festival of Carnatic music, the Tyagaraja Aradhana, at Saraswati Hall in Colombo.

The festival is an annual aradhana of Telugu saint-composer Tyagaraja, who attained Jeeva Samadhi in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The evening featured renditions of the saint’s Pancharatna Kritis by musicians from India and Sri Lanka.

Speaking about the influence of Carnatic music, High Commissioner of India Santosh Jha noted that it has been one of the deepest cultural bonds that India shares with Sri Lanka.
