Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the country’s first Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)-enabled Public Distribution System, developed in partnership with Punjab National Bank at Gandhinagar in Gujarat on Sunday.

Under the pilot project, more than 26,000 families in the Sabarmati zone and nearby districts will receive subsidies digitally, with wallets detailing commodities, quantities, and prices.

Officials say the initiative brings transparency, speed, and accountability to subsidy distribution, highlighting India’s push for innovative financial technology.
