India’s taxi services sector has seen a new government-backed initiative with the launch of Bharat Taxi, a cooperative-based pilot project, which began operations on Thursday.

The service has initially been introduced in major metropolitan cities and will be expanded across the country based on its performance during the pilot phase.

Bharat Taxi aims to go beyond basic ride-hailing by promoting trust, transparency and national interest as its core principles.

Currently operating as a pilot, the project’s nationwide rollout will depend on its early outcomes. If the initiative proves successful, Bharat Taxi could position itself as a credible, indigenous alternative in India’s taxi services market.
