India has reacted to reports of the demolition of a statue of a Hindu religious deity located in an area affected by the ongoing Thailand–Cambodia border dispute.

Responding to media queries, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it had taken note of reports regarding the demolition of the statue, which was built in recent times and situated in the disputed border region.

In a statement, the MEA spokesperson said that Hindu and Buddhist deities are deeply revered and worshipped by people across the region as part of a shared civilizational heritage.

The statement further read that irrespective of territorial claims, such disrespectful acts hurt the sentiments of followers around the world and should not take place.

India urged both sides to return to dialogue and diplomacy, resume peace efforts, and avoid any further loss of lives as well as damage to property and heritage.
