Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s campaign at the World Tour Finals in China ended on Saturday with the Indian men’s doubles pair lost their semi-final match and settled for a bronze medal.
The Indian badminton players went down to the local Chinese pair of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang by a scoreline of 10-21, 21-17, 21-13 in Hangzhou.
Earlier, they topped Group B after going unbeaten in all three matches, becoming the first Indian doubles team to reach the knockout stages of the season-ending tournament.
This is only the second World Tour Finals medal ever won by Indian shuttlers. PV Sindhu, who claimed the women’s singles title in 2018, remains the only gold medallist from the country in the competition.
In the Women’s doubles South Korea’s Beak Ha Na and Lee So Hee beat Japan’s duo Yuki Fikushima and Mayu Matsomoto by 21-17,21-11.
In the Men’s doubles final today, Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang will face the South Korean pair of KIM Yon Ho and SEO Seung Jae.
