The Indian captain Shubman Gill is “under observation” in hospital after suffering neck pain and will take no further part in the first Test against South Africa.
Gill experienced neck pain after scoring a boundary on the second day of the ongoing test series against South Africa in Kolkata and left the field.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated, “He is currently under observation in a hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team.”
Gill now faces a race to be fit to lead the side in the second Test in Guwahati, scheduled to begin on November 22.
Meanwhile India in deep trouble with score 10/2 when the last report came in. Both the openers are back to the pavilion courtesy a fiery spell by Marco Jansen.
SA were all out for 152 runs today morning. For the eighth wicket captain Temba Bavuma (55 not out) and Corbin Bosch put 44 runs.
India is chasing a small total of 124 but the pitch is helping the bowlers.
