Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the programme marking the 70th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo in Thimpu. Addressing the gathering, he expressed hope that the two countries continue to walk the path of peace, prosperity, and shared progress.
PM Modi highlighted that India and Bhutan are bound not only by borders but also by shared values, culture, peace, and deep emotions. Reflecting on his maiden visit to Bhutan in 2014 after taking oath as Prime Minister of India, he emphasized the strong and enduring relationship between the two nations.
He noted that India and Bhutan have stood by each other through every challenge, and as both countries advance on the path of progress and prosperity, their bond remains stronger than ever.
In addition, PM Modi and the Bhutanese King will jointly inaugurate the Punat-sangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project, jointly developed by India and Bhutan.
PM Modi said that the project is expected to increase Bhutan’s hydroelectric capacity by 40%. Both sides are also taking steps to cooperate in the solar energy sector. Work on pending hydropower projects will resume, and the partnership between India and Bhutan extends beyond hydropower to collaborative efforts in solar energy development.
PM Modi is on two-day visit to Bhutan. He departed toady morning to Thimpu.
