Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today met his South Korean counterpart Ahn Gyu-back on the sidelines of the 12th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Singh also met Vietnam’s Defence Minister Phan Van Giang.
A 30-week preterm infant, born at Base Hospital Delhi Cantt was referred to Army Hospital (Research and Referral) Delhi with stage 3 Retinopathy of Prematurity and a large Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) causing severe pulmonary hypertension which a life threatening condition. Laser Indirect Ophthalmoscopy (LIO) was planned, but the procedure was deemed unsafe under general or topical anesthesia due to the cardiac condition. In a collaborative effort between the Cardiac surgery, Cardiac anesthesiology, and Vitreo-retinal teams of Army Hospital (Research and Referral) Delhi the infant successfully underwent PDA ligation followed immediately by LIO for ROP in the same Cardiac operating theater of AHRR. This coordinated approach successfully managed both life-threatening and sight-threatening conditions simultaneously.
