The Balnoi Battalion of the Indian Army has launched the “Battle of OP Hill” Cricket Tournament in the Mendhar area of Poonch district, with the aim of promoting sportsmanship and fostering community engagement among local youth.

A senior Army official said the tournament has been organized “to encourage sportsmanship and community bonding through cricket,” emphasizing the role of sports in strengthening relations between the Army and civilians in the border region.

The tournament’s name draws inspiration from OP Hill, a strategically significant location that was captured by the Indian Army from Pakistani forces during the 1965 conflict. The historic battle remains a symbol of courage and determination displayed by Indian soldiers.

The ongoing cricket event is expected to bring together multiple local teams, offering a platform for healthy competition, camaraderie, and youth empowerment through the spirit of the game.
