Govardhan Puja 2025, also known as Annakoot Puja, is being celebrated with devotion and joy today. Govardhan Puja is observed on Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik.
The festival marks the divine act of Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill to protect the people of Vrindavan from Lord Indra’s wrath.
On this day, devotees offer prayers, light diyas, and prepare a mountain of food known as Annakut Bhog to seek Lord Krishna’s blessings for prosperity, health, and happiness.
In Gujarat’s Ranchodrai Temple in Dakora, a unique custom of “looting” takes place. After the Govardhan Puja, an Annakut ceremony is held where offerings are prepared and offered to the deity.
Following the ceremony, people from eighty surrounding villages are invited. The custom involves the “looting” of the Annakut prasad, a tradition that has been observed for centuries.
