The Consumer Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi, said India has now become the 13th country in the world to issue the International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML) pattern approval certificate. He was peaking at the 89th International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) General Meeting on Monday in New Delhi.

Joshi highlighted that the country’s inflation rate marked its lowest in 11 years, with prices of essential commodities monitored through 474 centres across the country.

He also emphasized the growing role of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which now oversees nearly 24 thousand standards, wider certification coverage, and key reforms like the HUID-based hallmarking system for gold and silver jewellery.

Minister Joshi added that initiatives such as the Production-Linked Incentive schemes, Semicon India Programme, National Green Hydrogen Mission, and clean energy schemes are helping the country to emerge as a global hub for electronics and sustainable technologies.

The Minister revealed that India will soon roll out a project to disseminate precise Indian Standard Time from five sites nationwide, in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory and ISRO.
