An intense

encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Gudder area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday.

According to officials, the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.

A joint team comprising the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the suspected location. As the forces moved in, they came under fire, triggering a retaliatory gun battle.

The Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the development on X, stating that “Based on specific intelligence input by JKP, joint search operation was launched by #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice & @crpf_srinagar  in Guddar forest of #Kulgam.”

“Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist has been eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries. Operation is in progress.”

Authorities have urged civilians to stay clear of the encounter site for safety reasons and have restricted media movement in the area. Officials assured that the situation is being closely monitored to avoid disruption to the local population.
