US Open 2025: Alcaraz, Sabalinka win; Venus Loses

Carlos Alcaraz kicked off his US Open 2025 campaign with a comfortable win against American Reilly Opelka. The 2nd seed Spaniard took 2hrs and 5minutes to win the first round match in straight sets 6-4 7-5 6-4.

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka also started her US Open 2025 campaign with a victory over Switzerland’s Rebeka Masarova. Sabalenka, the world number one, is aiming to become the first woman to win back-to-back US Open titles since Serena Williams’ 2014 hat-trick.

In an upset 6th seeded Madison Keys is defeated by Mexican Renata Zarazua in a 3hrs 10 minutes thriller.

Veteran Venus Williams lost her first round match with Czech Karolina Muchova in 3 sets.

Meanwhile, Emma Raducanu made a strong start, thrashing Japan’s Ena Shibahara to progress to the second round. This victory marked Raducanu’s first US Open win since her historic 2021 triumph, where she became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows.
