Rajnath Singh Lauds Space Hero Shukla’s ISS Mission

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian astronaut onboard the International Space Station (ISS), in New Delhi today. The Defence Minister congratulated Shukla on his remarkable achievement and termed it a major milestone in India’s journey towards human spaceflight.

Rajnath Singh acknowledged Group Capt Shukla’s contribution through the vital scientific experiments conducted in orbit and appreciated his role in enhancing India’s space research and exploration capabilities.

He expressed confidence that the astronaut’s inspiring journey would encourage young minds to pursue careers in science, technology, and space exploration.

Following the meeting, Rajnath Singh shared a post on X, where he revealed that their discussion covered Gp Capt Shukla’s space journey, the key experiments he undertook in orbit, developments in science and technology, and the future of India’s Gaganyaan mission.

The Defence Minister also highlighted the Indian Air Force’s crucial involvement in India’s space programme, particularly in astronaut selection, training, and mission support in collaboration with ISRO. He emphasized that the professionalism and expertise of IAF personnel are essential to India’s progress in human spaceflight.

With recognized achievements in lunar and Mars missions, India is now progressing toward manned spaceflight and the eventual establishment of its own space station. Shukla’s successful mission aboard the ISS is seen as a vital step in that direction, showcasing the strong synergy between ISRO, the IAF, and other national stakeholders in positioning India as a leading spacefaring nation.
