ECI Announces Date of 17th Vice Presidential Election

On 21 July 2025 Ex-Vice President of  India Jagadeep Dhankhar gave resignation letter to the President of India, showing the reason of health issues. So the Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Secretary General of Rajyasabha, P C Mody as the returning officer.

The details of the Election to the Office of the Vice-President of India, 2025 (17th Vice-Presidential Election) announced by the ECI is given below:

Issue of Election Commission’s notification calling the election: 07 August, 2025 (Thursday)

Last date for making nominations: 21 August, 2025 (Thursday)

Date for the Scrutiny of nominations: 22 August, 2025 (Friday)

Last date for the withdrawal of candidatures: 25 August, 2025 (Monday)

Date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken: 09 September, 2025 (Tuesday) from 10.00 AM to 5 PM

Date on which counting, if required, shall be taken: 09 September, 2025 (Tuesday).
