To improve the health and living conditions of soldiers deployed in the Himalayan high-altitude regions, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in New Delhi.

The MoU was signed in the august presence of Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, DBT, and Rahul Rasgotra, Director General, ITBP, along with senior officials from both organizations.

The collaboration aims to use modern biotechnology to solve the unique health and environmental challenges faced by ITBP personnel serving in some of the world’s toughest and coldest border areas.

Key areas of the MoU include:
Better healthcare for jawans: Tackling problems like high-altitude sickness, low oxygen (hypoxia), and extreme cold conditions.
Advanced medical support: Bringing diagnostic tools and telemedicine to remote border posts.
Nutritional and stress solutions: Research into improved diets, stress relief methods, and genetic studies for better adaptation to harsh climates.
Training for ITBP doctors and medics: Workshops and skill upgrades in the latest biotechnological methods.
Special Highlights of the Partnership are:
Joint Research: Both organisations will work together on studies to understand how high altitudes affect the body and mind.
Tailored Solutions: Development of special nutrition packs, emergency medical kits, and cold-weather health gears.
Mobile Labs and Telemedicine Units: Cutting-edge facilities to reach remote outposts faster and more efficiently.
Knowledge Exchange: Regular interaction between scientists and ITBP medical teams to stay updated with the latest innovations.
