Six people killed in a stampede on route to Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar, President and PM Condole

In Uttarakhand, at least six people lost their lives and 20 others were injured in a stampede on the pedestrian route leading to Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar today. Senior Superintendent of Police, Pramendra Singh Dobhal said, stampede occurred after chaos broke out following a rumor about an electric current spreading in the area.

Upon receiving information, the Uttarakhand Police, SDRF, and other rescue teams promptly reached the site and launched relief and rescue operations. The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals, while those in critical condition were referred to higher medical centers.

President Droupadi Murmu shared the condolence message on X, stating it the incidence a sad news.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami have also expressed deep sorrow over the incident and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Chief Minister Dhami has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible.

Meanwhile, the state government has announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
