World Parkinson’s Day is being observed today across the globe to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease, a kind of neurodegenerative disorder. The theme for this year is ‘Bridge the Care Gap’.
The day aims to educate people about the condition, promote early diagnosis, and advocate for better care and research.
On this occasion, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, has highlighted the rising prevalence of Parkinson’s disease and the need for effective management strategies.
AIIMS will also organise several awareness programmes, including a walkathon and public outreach events on the 18th and 19th of this month. The Professor and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr P. Sarat Chandra stressed that Parkinson’s symptoms, which typically appear in the elderly, are now increasingly being observed among younger patients.
