10 Dead After Boat Capsizes in Yamuna River in Mathura; PM expresses deep grief

Ten people lost their lives after a boat capsized in the Yamuna River in Mathura. The incident occurred today afternoon when a boat carrying devotees overturned in the river.

Mathura District Magistrate C.P. Singh stated that over 30 people from Ludhiana had come to Mathura for ‘Darshan’ (pilgrimage). All of them were taking a boat ride on the river, distributed across two boats.

The tragedy took place near K.C. Ghat, where one of the boats sank. The Army has been enlisted to assist in the ongoing rescue operations.

So far, 10 bodies have been recovered, while approximately 16 to 17 people have been rescued alive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have expressed their condolences over the tragedy.

The Chief Minister has also issued directives to provide appropriate compensation to the families of the deceased, in accordance with established norms.
