With growing demand for commercial LPG cylinders in Uttarakhand and the need to maintain a balance in supply, a new revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been implemented, Anand Swarup, Secretary of Food and Civil Supplies informed this.

Under the new framework, the total quota has been increased by up to 66 percent. He stated that the objective of the new SOP is to ensure a balanced, priority-based, and transparent distribution among various consumer segments.

“This measure will not adversely impact tourism, the Char Dham Yatra, industrial activities, or essential services. Oil and gas companies will now supply LPG in accordance with their respective market shares’, he added.

The revised SOP establishes specific daily requirements for different consumer categories. Quotas have been set at 1,500 cylinders for hotels and resorts; 2,000 cylinders for restaurants and dhabas; 300 cylinders for government guest houses; and 200 cylinders each for dairies, food processing units, homestays, hostels, and similar establishments.

Additionally, 660 cylinders have been allocated for wedding ceremonies, and 1,250 cylinders for industrial sectors. Making a special provision for wedding ceremonies, a maximum limit of two commercial cylinders has been prescribed.

Applicants for this purpose must obtain permission from the District Magistrate, and the supply will be facilitated through a temporary connection.

The implementation of this new SOP will ensure transparency and balance in commercial LPG distribution while ensuring that tourism and industrial activities remain unaffected.
