SC, HC Judges Highlight Rise in Cyber Disputes

Supreme Court and High Court judges on Friday highlighted the rising number of disputes in telecom, broadcasting and cyber sectors, calling for stronger legal frameworks and faster resolution mechanisms.

They were speaking at a seminar titled “Telecom, Broadcasting & Cyber Sectors: Disputes & Resolution” held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar.

Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha of the Supreme Court of India said evolving technology has created new legal challenges and stressed the need to strengthen frameworks to ensure timely justice in digital and communication sectors.

He underscored the judiciary’s role in adapting to technological change while balancing innovation with regulation.

Justice Arun Palli, chief justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, pointed to the increasing volume of disputes and emphasized the need for specialized tribunals and efficient mechanisms to handle such cases.

Justice D. N. Patel, chairperson of the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal, highlighted the tribunal’s role in adjudicating disputes in telecom and broadcasting sectors and ensuring fair practices.

The seminar brought together legal experts, policymakers, industry professionals and academicians, who discussed regulatory challenges, cybersecurity threats, data protection and digital rights.

The event concluded with an interactive session, with participants engaging experts on key issues in dispute resolution.
