Italian Coach Gattuso Resigns After Team Fails to Qualify World Cup

Italy’s national team coach, Gennaro Gattuso has resigned after the country failed to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup.

The Italy national football team were knocked out following a penalty shootout defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team in the play-off final, sealing Gattuso’s exit after less than a year in charge.

The fallout also saw Italian Football Federation president Gabriele Gravina step down, along with team manager Gianluigi Buffon.

Despite a relatively strong record on paper, Gattuso faced heavy criticism after Italy’s shock elimination, extending a period of decline for the four-time world champions.
