With the activation of a fresh Western Disturbancen Himachal Pradesh, a significant change in weather patterns is being observed. Over the past 24 hours, rainfall has been recorded across most parts of the state, while the higher-altitude regions have witnessed snowfall.
According to various reports received from the Meteorological Department and local administration, inclement weather conditions are expected to persist across the state for the coming days.
Fresh snowfall has occurred in the high-altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Kullu, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures.
Meanwhile, intermittent rainfall continues in the districts of Shimla, Mandi, Solan, Kangra, and Sirmaur. Visibility has also been adversely affected in several locations due to dense fog and overcast skies.
Conditions remain challenging in the Lahaul Valley and the vicinity of the Atal Tunnel (Rohtang) due to snowfall and adverse weather. As a precautionary measure, the administration has imposed a temporary ban on commercial activities within the Atal Tunnel. Furthermore, the risk of avalanches has increased in the higher-altitude regions, prompting authorities to advise residents and tourists to remain vigilant.
Roads in several parts of the state have become slippery, and some link roads have been blocked. The impact on daily life is clearly evident, with transportation and movement particularly disrupted in the tribal regions. There are also reports of disruptions to electricity and water supplies in certain areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue across various parts of the state over the next 24 to 72 hours, with snowfall persisting in the higher-altitude regions. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning strikes in some locations.
The administration has appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel—especially in hilly and snow-bound areas—to exercise caution, and to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Meteorological Department. Overall, weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh currently remain unstable, and the situation is being continuously monitored.
