Second meeting of IGoM on West Asia held in New Delhi

Under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the second meeting of the Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM), was held at Kartavya Bhawan-2, New Delhi on 2 April, 2026.

The IGoM set-up to monitor the evolving situation in West Asia and suggest proactive measures for its minimum impact on India.

The IGoM deliberated upon the recent developments at length, and the next steps to be taken by the Government to mitigate any adverse impact arising due to the ongoing conflict.

Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman; Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri; Minister of Power, Manohar Lal; Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Jagat Prakash Nadda; Minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar; Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Prahlad Joshi; Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh; and Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw attended the meeting.

The Defence Minister underlined the importance of round-the-clock monitoring of the situation and the need to respond in a calibrated manner to deal with any eventuality.

He stressed on the need to leave no stone unturned to ensure that the people of the country face the minimum effect of the conflict.

During the meeting, the seven Empowered Groups of Secretaries briefed the IGoM on the steps being taken to tackle the situation.

The IGoM was apprised about measures undertaken by the Ministry of Finance to address concerns arising due to global trade disruptions and provide relief and support to the industry, especially manufacturing, and bolster investor confidence.

The first meeting of the IGoM took place on March 28, 2026
