In response to a query raised by National Conference MP Mohammad Ramzanin in Rajya Sabha today, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment informed that, law enforcement agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have seized a massive 68,062 kilograms of narcotics over the past five years, reflecting both the scale of drug trafficking networks and sustained enforcement action in the Union Territory.

According to the Ministry, the significant seizures underscore the growing challenge posed by narcotics trafficking in the region, even as authorities continue to intensify their crackdown through coordinated operations.

Officials said the data also points to the effectiveness of enforcement agencies in intercepting illegal consignments and dismantling drug supply chains across Jammu and Kashmir.

The query in the Upper House also sought details regarding surveys on drug addiction and the extent of narcotics seizures in the Union Territory, highlighting rising concerns over substance abuse.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to tackling the menace through strict enforcement, awareness initiatives and inter-agency coordination to curb both supply and demand of narcotics.
